Burra Heritage Cottages Front End

Burra Heritage Cottages - Tivers Row can accommodate up to 24 people in six fully self-contained cottages. The cottages are attached, and each is a fully self contained unit with two bedrooms, kitchen, parlour and bathroom. A private cottage garden is at the back of each cottage, with outdoor furniture. A BBQ is available on request.

The numbers on each cottage are the street numbers. The bedroom configuration of each cottage is as follows:

Two extra single beds are available, and two fold up camp beds [for children], all with linen. Cottages 8 and 10 have an interconnecting door between the parlours. This is a double insulated door which can be opened for groups.

Laundry facilities are available.

CONFERENCES

Burra Heritage Cottages are suitable for small conference groups. Six cottages sleep up to 24 people (shared). Conference rooms are available in several locations: the Burra Court House [for up to 50] or Ryan Deer Farm [up to 30], or the Burra Town Hall [up to 200]. The Burra Town Hall has been recently refurbished and offers on-line facilities.
Full catering is available, at the cottages or elsewhere and Burra has many restaurants, cafes & hotels.

GENERAL LOCAL INFORMATION

Burra is in South Australia, 160 km north of Adelaide, on the A32 highway to Broken Hill. It is situated in agricultural country famous for merino sheep studs [ask us for some to visit]. The region also grows cereal and oil seed crops. Burra is situated in the Regional Council of Goyder [visit www.goyder.sa.gov.au] and in the Clare Valley Region

Burra is a small country town with a rich copper mining history. In 1851 the Burra Monster Mine was the richest copper mine in the world and the mine site still has the old Cornish engine houses, built in the 1860's. The Burra Burra Branch of the National Trust manages many of the heritage sites. The Burra Heritage Trail provides a self guided tour of the town and its secrets and has plenty to keep you occupied for several days. The film 'Breaker Morant' was filmed in and around Burra.

Our golf course is fully greened and of A1 standard. Casual visitors are welcome.

Burra is 40km from wineries in the beautiful Clare Valley.

Within a few kilometres to the east is outback country with saltbush, kangaroos, sunshine, and a rainfall of 200mm. Burra's rainfall is 430mm. Saltbush Clothing Company operates out of Burra. If you are researching your family tree, chances are you might be connected to Burra. Cornish miners were brought to Burra in 1845 to mine the rich copper lode and many went from Burra to Moonta, Broken Hill and the eastern gold fields. The Burra Community Library has the Ian Auhl Local History Room with many photos, documents and other research material concerning Burra's early history. There is also a full set of the births deaths and marriages registers for the district.

Climate: Burra has cold winters [it has been known to snow] and an elevation of 500m. Summers are warm and dry with temperatures about the same as for Adelaide.
